Well I tried to bring up some points rationally and openly to the community here :

http://forums.littlebigworkshop.com/lbp/board/message?board.id=pod&thread.id=1457

but as you can see it was locked over the course of the day, seems instead of addressing an issue or responding to actual references and questions its a better tactic to lock it and/or delete it (which will likely happen) and hope it goes away.

Your forums you do what you want MM, personally tried going about this the civil route but I guess *some* of us are going to take the free time we would be trying to enjoy your game to seeing about options on how to make this harder for you instead.

Its simply amazing how rude and underhanded you treat your customers.

I hope the rest of you who are upset with this issue do what you can to take this one step further. Don't bother coming here to complain about it, but do spread the word the best you can, look into whatever legal issues you can and report them for any infringement and violations they have commited to the people that are needed.

MM, your really quite pathetic if you think this is a good bussiness practice, even if nothing gets done people do remember this sort of crap and your future products will suffer greatly as a result.

Kudos!

Another way i recommend people deal with this is that you report it to Game media sites, get it on their news for all to see, VG247 has already reported on it.

I just want to make sure I'm clear on what's going on.  "Failure to Launch" was "moderated" becuase it shared the title of a movie and nothing else, right?  So if I were to create a level called "Basic" it would get moderated too since it would share the same title as a movie.  Or if I created a level named "Oasis" it would get moderated because it shared the name of popular band.

"Mountain" - TV show and a rock band.

"Bird" - 2 different movies

"Happy Birthday" - a movie

"Happy Birthday to You" - a song

All of these could be "moderated" as they could infringe on copyrighted works.

You had a fairly decent argument going until you basically called MM Nazis.  Duh.  Right now, though, I have to agree that my opinion of them is quite low.

It doesn't make sense. Some of the levels in the Canyon type area seem inspired by Indiana Jones. There is the temple thing that is a bit similar to the Temple of Doom and there is the part with the big boulder dropping in and following you. Just like Indy you need to run away s o you don't get squashed...

Your examples aren't quite accurate, here's a better example -

Oasis is the name both of a band and of a soft drink (at least in Europe), however any level using the title "Oasis" would be absolutely fine right now unless it included music by Oasis the band, or the likeness of the drinks bottle.

There is a lot of exaggeration at play here with exactly what's going on with moderation. Firstly, no level is moderated unless it has been reported using the Good Grief tool, at which point it will only be blocked from online play if it is in violation of the EULA. To date there have been fewer than 200 levels which have been blocked - considerably less than 0.5% of all the levels published. The great majority of moderated levels were removed due to containing obscenity.

Secondly, even if a level is moderated you will still be able to access it offline on your moon, and make changes if you know where the problem was, before republishing.

Finally, if your level is moderated you will receive a message informing you that it has happened - if you don't receive a message, it hasn't been moderated. Try searching for your PSN ID to find all the levels you've published.

There is work to be done on improving the communication of why levels have been moderated, and this is underway, however this is not as widespread as you may have been lead to believe, and it does not affect levels you have locally.

The hypocrisy is just unbelievable.   He must truly think we're all 10 year old idiots.

So... Your point is that they should also erase user-made characters? Really, what's your point?

You want more moderation?

I appreciate that Sony & MM explained their position and I hope they will publish some more detailed guidelines. About creating levels that involve copyrighted material... well, you can't do that. Period.

Sony is - legally - partly responsible for what is in their servers, so it's their call. In other words: those are the rules, take it or leave it. It's not like we are discussing about freedom of speech in public places. This is a game, created by a company. You can't expect to have total freedom.

I'm all for being creative in making an "original" level. I'm even trying to make a few as I speak.  But to immediately delete a level w/o notice because of a "copyright" infringement is wrong. Sony/MM should have known about this a LONG time ago and done something then. Just like they should've known about the song w/"offensive" lyrics.

Now we have the infamous "Shadow of Colossus" level, God of War costumes and even "spawn" sackboy around. That gave a big impression that people are/were able to create something they like and wanted to share to others with the same interest.  Now you're going to give us Disney costumes and Solid Snake. Who's NOT going to want to make a level from either IP? Or what if they would want to create a "fan-fiction" level using the characters and whatnot. To be honest I really liked that idea because there are/were some really good levels that came from it.

As a lot of people have said, most of the levels/characters are a tribute, parody or satire to the IP and there shouldn't be anything wrong with that. Just how the "Gradius" level was created makes me wonder how he/she did it.

Kudos!
