Custom Costume Moderation

Just wanted to say that costume modration has begun (at least on Little Big Workshop).  This morning I received an e-mail from Sony saying that Marvel had complained about "something" I had submitted on LBW and I had violated copyright policy and that I shouldn't post the content again.  Now, of course, they never said what it was, but after looking through my last fews posts, inspirations, etc.  it appears as though it was my "SackThing" inspiration.  I also noticed that several other Marvel custom costumes had been removed from other users also.

I wonder if Marvel looks through Flikr to find pictures of kids dressed up as Marvel characters for Halloween. I mean c'mon!  A standard orange skin with a brick pattern and a blue swimsuit??

That's the worst thing you can find on the Internet?  At least it didn't get removed from my game...yet!  Creators be forewarned!!

Here is the content of the e-mail:

We received a notice from Marvel Entertainment, Inc. (“Marvel”) that materials that you posted on LittleBIGWorkshop.com infringe Marvel’s copyrights.  Under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and the Little Big Workshop Copyright Policy, we removed and disabled access to these materials.

Re: Custom Costume Moderation

Dude, that sucks...However, it is someone else's creative work that you re-created.  As far as copyright law goes, that a big no no.

I remember a band (might still be arround) that was called Green Jello.  They had to change the name of the band and I think one of their songs and the lyrics in that song to say Green Jelly.  It was trademark infringement which is pretty much the same thing.

I have also heard of things that were too close to the original work and have it shut down as well.  Sucks but it is what it is.

I've heard the Lucas Arts is pretty liberal with parodies of Star Wars stuff.

Sorry dude.

Yeah I remember Stan Lee cramming thing into the kid's batmobile and breaking it.  Then he sits there and says he was able to turn into the Hulk and he actually did it once.  HA HA.

Re: Custom Costume Moderation

In my opinion is slightly absurd. I mean by recreating the character in a sackboy form I wouldn't immediatly say that you are violating copyrights.. Then they should moderate all the fanart over at sites as deviantart as well.

Conspiracy:
Is this a hint at a future Marvel costume pack?

Well...Some sites have the consent to have people create things and post them.  Maybe deviantart has that permission.  It is kind of absurd, but it doesn't surprise me at the same tim.

They don't, they'll only start remove-ing once asked for removal, kinda like the youtube system.

Re: Custom Costume Moderation

Yeah, I had a few of mine modded last week, kind of stupid if you ask me, its like going to a comic book convention and yanking the costumes off of the fans backs. If you're not using them for self promotion or gain, what's the problem? Also, shows like Saturday Night Live and Mad TV couldn't survive without using satirized images. Is John Madden going to put out a hit on Frank Calliendo? Eh, let the baby have it's bottle (another Simpson's reference) they really can't stop us from using the costumes personally, and that's really why we created them in the first place, right?

I'm just wondering how soon this will end up hitting the costume levels; most have some version of spiderman or wolverine on display.
