LittleBigPlanet 2

Frequently Asked Questions

With the announcement of LittleBigPlanet 2, it's not surprising that the community is full of plenty of curious gadders who have a few questions about the new LittleBigPlanet title and what exactly it means for their current Sackperson and his creations on the original LittleBigPlanet. :smileyhappy:

To help answer everyone's questions, this post will contain the known answers to those regularly occuring questions or in the event that the answer is currently unknown, it will be stated as such.

So if you've got questions about your current LittleBigPlanet Creations, DLC, LittleBigPlanet 2 Betas or Pre-orders.

Be sure to check out the answers below. :smileyhappy:

Of course, if you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'm sure that a fellow community member will be able to help you out.

Just bear in mind that if we don't know the answer, then that ultimately will be the best answer that we can offer.

Similarly please try to avoid asking a question that's already been answered within this thread, as even the most patient LittleBigPlanetians, don't wish to repeat themselves over and over.

Anyway onto the questions and answers...

What's new in LittleBigPlanet 2?

If you want an insight into what's new in LittleBigPlanet 2, then perhaps you'll want to check out this New Tools, Features and Updates list for the game:

http://forums.littlebigworkshop.com/t5/General-Discussion/LittleBigPlanet-2-Frequently-Asked-Questio...

When is LittleBigPlanet 2 due to be released?

North America: November 16th
Other Regions: To Be Announced, although they should be relatively close to North America's release date.

Will there be a Collector's Editon of LittleBigPlanet 2 and any special pre-order bonuses?

Yes and yes!
There will be lots on offer!

Here's the Collector's Edition and pre-order bonus news for North America:

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/07/23/littlebigplanet-2-updates-official-date-and-retail-goodnes...

There should be news of the other regions releases in the near future. :smileyhappy:

Will my downloaded content (dlc) be compatible with LittleBigPlanet 2?

"Yes! All of the costume items, stickers and other bits and pieces you’ve paid for or collected from the LittleBigPlanet will be sitting in your Popit, right where you left them. Not only that, but the new engine will make everything look better than ever, and with the inclusion of the Sackbots, you’ll have even more use for costume pieces!"

Will my own levels and creations be carried over to LittleBigPlanet 2?

"Yes! Everything you’ve ever built on your Moon will be available for you to use again in LBP2, and everyone else’s published levels will still be out there ready to play!"

"We’re working hard to ensure that everything you’ve collected from LittleBigPlanet can be used in the new game. Certainly anything you’ve picked up from the PSN Store will be fully present and correct in LittleBigPlanet 2, the only time something might not quite work perfectly is if it has been created by another player using a ‘glitched’ object of some kind. Even then we’re optimistic that all of the existing content you’ve collected will continue to work."

Will all the community levels be available to play in LittleBigPlanet 2?

"Yes! LittleBigPlanet and LittleBigPlanet 2 will share the same server, and all the community levels with them, all two million of them."

It's been suggested that some levels particularly those containing glitches may not transfer over, however the game is still in development and Media Molecule are still working to resolve these issues at this time.

Will there be a LittleBigPlanet 2 beta test and how can I join?
Yes!
More news on the beta soon:

http://forums.littlebigworkshop.com/t5/General-Discussion/LBP2-Beta-Coming-soon/td-p/286667

"Hi all :smileyhappy:

There will be an LBP2 beta soon. We will have some more news on how we will recruit for this beta soon, but in the mean time i wanted to drop in and say that you will all be in witha chance to get in.
If you are already in the beta group, you will automatically be added tothe LBP2 Beta test,, and the forum has now been re-opened, so come along and say hi :smileyhappy:
ok more news soon, i promise
Please dont message me or anyone asking for invites!"

Will The Original Story Mode Levels and GOTY Levels Be Included In LittleBigPlanet 2?
"The wonderfully fun LBP1 story levels will remain unique to its Blu-ray disc, but you’ll see familiar elements/tools/items as part of the foundation for LittleBigPlanet 2. And while the community levels will be unique to the GOTY edition – hopefully if you guys vote for us again, you’ll see something similar in the future…"

Will the Launch Spacesuit be re-released to celebrate LittleBigPlanet 2's release?

Although it is widely believed that the Launch Spacesuit will be re-released to celebrate the release of a new LittleBigPlanet game, no official confirmation has been made about the Launch Spacesuit being re-released for LittleBigPlanet 2's release so far.

Will the Week 1 T-Shirt be released to celebrate LittleBigPlanet 2's release?

No.

The Week 1 T-Shirt will not be released.

Do I need the Playstation Move Controller to play LittleBigPlanet 2?

No, the main game can be played entirely with a standard PS3 controller.
There may be some "bonus" Move Levels included on the disc or patched into the game at a later date, however at this time there is very little information known about these levels and what requirements they have to be enjoyed fully.

None the less, you will still be able to play LittleBigPlanet 2's key features with a standard controller.

Will It Be 720p or 1080p?

"LittleBigPlanet 2 is getting a completely new graphical overhaul, so stay tuned for a future LittleBigPlanet 2 post, where we’ll cover off on more specifics like this."

The current news is that there will not be full support at launch but it will be somthing that they are adding at some point.

http://www.vg247.com/2010/05/10/media-molecule-lbp2-wont-have-full-move-support-at-launch/

Third paragraph...

“We’re really excited by giving the Move controller to the community,” Healy told us. “We’re totally going to go to town on supporting that, but I don’t think we will have the full functionality at launch. There will be a taster, but it is something we are planning to do.”

Actually that *may* not be the case. Some of the levels that used exploits may not get carried over Link

Which for me is GREAT NEWS! :smileyvery-happy:

Still, they do only state two million, and the current tally for published levels is near 2.5 million, so in effect removing the levels that use glitches, may then bring that number back down to 2 million.

Re: LittleBigPlanet 2 - Frequently Asked Questions

wouldn't it be cool if in lbp2 would be a sword out of these paper rols that you find in kitchen rolls.
when you press R1 sackboy will swing it in any direction you want.

wouldn't it be better if he swung it around using the right analog stick, like the paintonator?

Don't get too excited guys, watching the Qore video yesterday... Mm LOVES the 50 layer glitch and were super impressed with what some creators did with it.

I have some things you should add to that list BTW.

Is there anything like the Paintinator coming with LBP2?

Why yes, so far we've been shown the Grapple tool which can Grab onto any normally grababble materials. Think of it as a rubber band extension of your Sackperson's arm. There will also be jump pads which can send Sackboy bounding off in different directions much further than a normal jump. In a Sony press release they also mentioned a Magic Sack and Power Gloves while leaving it open for more to be announced.

Does Sackboy & the costumes look the same?

Yes and no... While all of the DLC and earned costumes from LBP1 work in LBP2 there are many new elements added as well! In the Qore preview video it showcases several new costumes including a flat Notepad type costume and a Birdcage helmet with what appears to be a different shaped head. Expect more info to come as we get closer to launch.

Just what is a 'Sackbot'?

While we don't know yet everything these new elements can do, there's quite a bit of info out already. Sackbots have tweak-able AI and can be set with several parameters, including follow, chase, fear of heights, and so much more. Sackbots can also be controlled with a DIRECT CONTROL SEAT with custom controls letting Sackboy pilot his creations. Sackbots can be tweaked in size as well, from the trailer and Qore preview, we can see Height, Head Size, Arm Length, and Leg Length all seem to be changeable.

What is a Direct Control Seat?

Direct Control Seats are Mags the Mechanic's wildest dreams come true. Remember all those cool vehicles people have made where most often you had to grab in a specific area to make a part function? Well with the Direct Control Seat gadders can customize controls for their creations which should bring tons of freedom to our more mechanically inclined Sacks. It allows creators to custom map controls to the Dual Shock 3 including access to the SixAxis motion control scheme. It also appears to be used to record Sackbot routines and even control level elements, more details are expected in the months to come.

As far as Move support, while Mm is being coy, the same Sony press release posted yesterday also stated there would be bonus levels for the Move controller showcasing the control scheme. That doesn't mean there wouldn't be more widespread implementation later, but there will be levels made just for Move at first.

Re: LittleBigPlanet 2 - Frequently Asked Questions

Hello guys! I have been away for a (BIG) while, and the info/trailer about LBP2 brought me back. I really can't wait to get my hand on it!

I have two questions to be (hopefully) included on this FAQ:

Is there already any information about LBP2 trophies?

I am worried about the trophies because the original LBP trophies had some problems. I believe that trophies should reflect "personal achievements", and not depend on votes ("hearts"). Also, let me re-post one of my observations from about one-and-a-half year ago:

'Well, as I said, I know it will take me some time to get the "Create" trophy. And it is a shame that some other trophies, like the "High Score" and "Sackbird", for example, were so poorly designed. For me, the "High Score" one should have been "Accumulate a total of 1 million points while playing the Story levels" (that was actually how I got mine, BTW). As for the "Sackbird" and the "Incredible Height" and "Incredible Speed" trophies, they should also have been limited to the Story levels, and the developers should have created some hidden areas to get these trophies. This way, we could have avoided most of the "easy trophies" crap levels.'

Without "easy trophies" levels, the "cool levels" pages would serve their purpose. Which brings me to the second question:

I know LBP2 will feature new ways to discover cool levels, but will there be a way to filter out unwanted stuff, like the infamous "easy trophies" levels?

Those are my two questions for now. Thanks for reading.
