LittleBigWorkshop Monthly Level Theme Contest - March!!

[ Edited ]

The
LittleBigWorkshop
Monthly Level Theme
Create Contest

March

Well it appears as though our little Playstation 3 console issue has now been resolved and with that being the case, we can now get onto this month's theme. :smileyhappy:

You know the format by now, myself and the other judges will begin playing all the 2x Player Level submissions for February whilst you guys get the chance to work on this month's theme and try to win that elusive Rare Prize Crown! :smileywink:

So your theme for March is going to be...
Sports!

Sports

The 2010 Winter Olympics has just finished and now it's LittleBigPlanet's turn to host its own sporting levels!

This is definitely a theme for the creative and logically minded Creators among us, we want to see you creating levels around either a pre-existing sport or perhaps even creating your own brand new sport just for LittleBigPlanet!

However we're not too picky, so your level doesn't have to be Winter themed like those seen at the Winter Olympics, we'll accept any sport that can be played under any chosen weather conditions.

Provided that your level can be clearly defined as a sport, it will be an acceptable entry and allowed to take place amongst the other LittleBigPlanet sports, hopefully winning you your own Golden Prize in the process. :smileywink:

Oh and before you all scurry off and begin Creating...
Let me make it clear that it will take a lot to convince myself and the other judges that Bomb Survival is an official sport today, so you're probably best avoiding that area altogether. :smileytongue:

If you have a great idea but you're unsure if it meets the theme of Sports, feel free to send me a PM and I'll be sure to give you a definite answer on whether or not it will be allowed. :smileyhappy:

Another important factor to mention is that this month's levels would probably benefit greatly from having a clever way of distributing a score through Race Gates and/or Score Bubbles to anyone that plays the level, depending on the suitability for your level.

After all, I'm sure that every Sackboy and Sackgirl that plays your chosen Sport, would like to be scored and find out exactly how they're comparing to the rest of the world in your level. :smileywink:

So anyway there's your theme for March...
Sports!

Now onto those rules that you should be all too familiar with by now...

Rules

1. The contest is open to ALL regions.

2. This contest is for the original LittleBigPlanet on Playstation 3, so please do not create and publish levels on LittleBigPlanet PSP for the purpose of entering this contest.

3. The level must relate to the theme of the month in someway, in this case the theme is Sport Levels and therefore the level must be clearly defined as a sport in the judges' opinion.

4. The month's entries must be published before the 1st day of the following month. Meaning that the deadline for this month's theme of Sports is March 31st.

5. Once the deadline has passed, you may re-publish your level for the purpose of fixing serious bugs/problems or adding minor aesethic adjustments.

However you must not alter your level drastically, for example by increasing its overall length or adding entirely new sections to the level. Any level considered to have been altered drastically after the deadline will be disqualified.

6. Entries for each theme must be brand new published levels. We will not accept previously published levels that were originally published before the announcement of the month's theme. Any levels found to have been published before the announcement will be disqualifed.

7. Each player may only submit one level per month for the contest, any player found to have published more than one level will be disqualified for that particular month's contest.

8. There is only a single Prize Crown to be awarded to the winner chosen by the judges for each theme, which will be awarded to the PSN that the level is published under. You may use Online Create if you wish, however bear in mind that there's only a single prize on offer and it will be awarded to the publisher of the level.

9. At the end of each month, the month's theme will end and judging will begin. The judges consist of myself and a number of other community members who have been selected especially for the task of judging these levels. Whilst we will endeavour to pick the level that we feel is best amongst the entries, you may not always agree, however the judges' decision is ultimately final.

How To Submit Your Level

To submit your level for this month's theme, just add the term "(LBW3)" to your level's name.

LBW for LittleBigWorkshop and the number 3, since it's the 3rd month's contest.

For this month though, the term is "(LBW3)".

Just put that term into your level's name and provided that you publish the level before April 1st and the level meets the month's theme, it will be eligible.

Judges will not be held responsible for not judging a level they couldn't locate due to not following these given instructions.

With the correct term in your published level's name though, we should be able to locate the level on the LittleBigPlanet server and judge it accordingly.

So just follow the instructions above and your level should be fine.

Once you've published your level, feel free to use a single post in this thread or even the Promotion Zone to promote your level to the masses, although whether you choose to promote your level further is entirely optional.

However I must request that you do not ask the judges for their opinion on your level until after this particular theme has ended and the winner has been announced. This applies to all future themes, we will not discuss levels submitted until after the winner has been announced for any given theme.

We don't mind giving feedback for future reference but it's only fair to the other contestants, that we keep our thoughts on your level to ourselves until we have officially declared a winner.

Similarly please do not ask the judges if they have found and/or played your level yet.

Quite simply we will most likely have a lot of entries to get through and we just will not have the time to keep answering such questions.

Therefore it is vitally important that you remember to place the given term into your level's name, as the judges will not be held responsible for not judging any levels that they are unable to locate on the LittleBigPlanet server due to the level not being published in the manner described.

That's everything covered now, so feel free to begin creating!
Any questions, feel free to send a PM my way.

As I said, if you're unsure whether or not your Sport would be considered valid, you've only got to send a PM and simply ask, to find out. :smileyhappy:

Good luck with crafting your chosen Sports for LittleBigPlanet! :smileyhappy:

Myself and the other judges are looking forward to seeing just what Sports, the community can create for LittleBigPlanet. :smileywink:

Must we base our level around a real sport? Or can we make our own?

Edit: Ok, I read the rules, nevermind

Re: LittleBigWorkshop Monthly Level Theme Contest - March!!

This may be quite challenging, seeing as part of what our levels are judged on is originality.

Its time to be unique!

Spelling error! A fatal error that might offset the entire competition!

[/sarcasm]

What a great idea! Sadly I'm not gonna participate as 1. I'm busy 2. I don't do sport levels 3. LBW2 Isn't finished
Good luck to all the people who want to enter!

Re: LittleBigWorkshop Monthly Level Theme Contest - March!!

Hi,

I've got a really great idea and I've got time on my side for once, but I'm just wondering,

How many people normally compete? I don't wanna spend a lot of my time making something if there are so many other entries someone else might do the same, or its just forgotten, etc.

Thanks

Originality and creativity will definitely be high scoring factors with the judges. :smileywink:
Hence the opinion that people should probably best avoid creating Bomb Survival levels. :smileytongue:

If you share the Prize Crown with someone else that uses your console, that's entirely your decision.
There's certainly no rules set in stone against such a thing, since Sony allow DLC to be shared on a console generally.
Of course, we'll know who the real Prize Crown holder is though. :smileywink:

If you want to invent a brand new sport, that's acceptable provided that the level can be defined as a sport.

Motorsports are indeed classed as a sport.

However I'd advise you to design such a level carefully.

From a gameplay aspect, if all I have to do is hold onto some grabbable Material and watch my Sackboy's vehicle drive across the screen, it could be considered a little dull and likely won't score too highly due to lack of actual gameplay.
