Save game problems - how you can help

[ Edited ]

There are a few problems with some players' saved games out there, and we're working on the solution to this as quickly as possible.

While we're working on fixes, we've only had a few reports come in and fewer still save games with these problems for us to examine and work out what's going on, so we're asking for your assistance!

We'd like some more problem saved games to help us test our fixes, so if you have experienced these problems & you still have the save game please send your save data to savegames@mediamolecule.com (please do not use this address for anything other than sending saved games through).

The specific problems we are looking for are:

1. Profile won't load and the game quits to XMB with no message.  Other profiles load and the affected profile can be loaded as another player, just not the main player.

2. You get a "Failed to load level" message on a level on your moon, even if you're offline.

News of when these fixes will be released will be announced very soon!

Re: Save game problems - how you can help

How to get Save Data off your Playstation 3 and send it to us

1) Connect a removable memory device into your PS3; such as a USB Memory stick, External Hard Drive, PSP, Flash Memory Card

2) On the XMB go to the ‘Game’ menu and scroll to the ‘Save Data’ folder.

3) Enter the ‘Save Data’ folder and scroll to your LittleBigPlanet save file.

4) Press Triangle and select Copy.

5) Select to Copy your data to the memory device connected to your Playstation 3.

6) Once the copy has completed, back out to the top level of the XMB and remove the memory device connected to your Playstation 3.

7) Connect the memory device to your computer.

8) Compress (zip/rar) the PS3 folder that was created, and attach it to an email.

-or-

8) Enter the folders \PS3\SAVEDATA\BCUS98148 and attach the 5 files in the last folder to an email.

Re: Save game problems - how you can help

[ Edited ]

OK, this will only work if you last backed up your save data for LBP PRIOR to your "Failed to load level" error occurred...and only if you're getting this on your own levels you have created.

What you will need...

2 memory sticks, or other means of backing up save data.  One with your previous save (referred to as old save from here on out) and one for the "new save"

1.  Bring up your XMB and go to your game save data utility and go to LBP.  Copy current game position on a new memory stick.  It can be a flash drive or your PSP's memory stick as well but it can not contain the save you had previous to the error message

2.  Take out the new stick, put in the old one with the "old data"

3.  Delete your game save on your HDD.

4.  Go to your memory stick with your old game save data and copy to HDD.

5.  Go to your "My Moon" and find your level you were working on and publish it.

6.  Once that is done, exit game.

7.  Put in new stick with "new save" on it.

8.  Delete the "old save" from HDD and copy "new save" to HDD

9.  Load LBP.  Go to your left moon and access the "My Levels" area.

10.Find your level you just published and copy it back to your moon and overwrite the corrupt level that give you the "Failed to load level" error.

Once you are satisfied that the level will now load without errors, make sure you save in create mode and give it plenty of time to make sure the HDD is done being accessed.  Exit back to your pod properly.  Quit your game and go and copy your current progress to your memory stick.

I had made a back up copy of my game save data on Dec 15th.  I got my error on Dec 26th or 27th and had since progressed a LOT in story mode and of course the MGS levels.  By doing the above actions, I was able to recover my erred level with not too much progress lost and was also able to keep my current progress in the game.  WHAT A RELIEF.  I had about 30+ hours in that level when it corrupted but I was able to recover to where I was about 26 hours into it.  Not too bad and I don't have to start all over from scratch.

Moral of the story, back up, back up, back up.  I will now be backing up every night just in case and I will also be making sure I give the HDD plenty of time to properly save my data, etc and will not "Shut down system" from the XMB while LBP or any other game is still running.

I hope this helps, if anyone has a question, please PM me.

Bluefalcon's suggestions above are well worth trying in the meantime if you're currently experiencing problems.

Re: Save game problems - how you can help

While I wish I could provide you with a test dummy, I can't, because it just happens randomly to me. I hope the programmers over at MM tried going the obvious route first and just gave more space to the user before going around to tackle the more serious issues with the problem.

Rather than that, I suggest you edit your post to include the help information, to save stickying more topics than absolutely necessary.

Re: Save game problems - how you can help

Nice. It's just that well number one happened to me, like a long time ago and I have yet to tackle it again. Luckily I might add. And number two only happens occassionly to me. But recently it's been quite okay..
But good to see you guys working on this. *thumbs up*

Re: Save game problems - how you can help

Thank you sam for addressing this publicly. The only issues I am having are the white screen and then problem loading levels but not my own levels. I will pass this info to my friends who are not on the forums here so they can contact you guys. Some of them had this issue happen.
