Level: The Adventures of ScubaSack (EP 1): Fire Beneath the Waves (1 up)

Concept: You're travelling in an underwater dive suit to investigate volcanoes seeming to spout only as ships pass by and stop it if possible.

Level contents: A sub boss and main boss, A cave maze with a few dead ends, a platforming paintinator section out of the craft, and a lead up to future levels in the story.

Notes: Seems many are giving up before completing the level, so here's some tips:

*The first sub boss hits hard, and might knock off the head of the craft. I will add a detonation (somehow, the thermo is topped off) if it seperates when my new TV arrives.

*Forward progress through the hull of the pirate ship is the easiest way.\-

*The volcano maze has more dead ends than not, if you don't find the clue, look for the guard watching a video feed and shoot him, slowly

*Once in the volcano section outside the craft there's a few dead ends and wrong turns. Always remember the idea is working your way up, not down. There's a few sections obscured by pipes, but there's always a way up and the pipes are there on purpose. After reaching the goal up top, follow the stickers to the way out. Remember, you want to grab the lower section(aka the arms) to reenter the sub.

*Once you've completed this go forward and you'll see a new pathway is revealed, follow this until you're back in open water and confronted with the final boss. Watch for falling rock wall after defeating it.

*To activate the scoreboard, you may have to briefly open the hatch to set it off. This is a half and half glitch that I can't pin down and seems to relate to how you land on it.

ZERO GRAVITY: THE SPACE STATION: BY: THE COOPER8

 

 

Plot:

 

You are stranded on an out of controll space station and you must use your whits and platforming skills to make it out alive!

 

 

PROS:

 

The gravity mechanic works amazingly well, but can get out of control at times!

 

Great visuals and amazing mechanics makes this level awesomesauce in my eyes!

 

The badge gave me some good first impressions when i was about to play it!

 

CONS:

 

Extreme lag when played with 2 players! When only stated as having lag with 3-4 players. (gocubsgo played with me)

 

Gravity can go REALLY bad at times, out of control movement, lag even in one player, etc....

 

No other cons that i know of....

 

NITPICKS:

 

The gravity, (again) was a real turnoff for me, but worked for the most part!

 

At the beggining, the text bubbles state that lag mostly only happens with 3-4 players, this is wrong! When i played, it was almost to the point where cubs may have had to leave while i did the review!

 

The wait time for gravity to change is a little on the long side, if you could shorten up the wait, this would massively improve gameplay!

 

FIXES:

 

Fix the lag notification error

 

Change the wait time so its slightly shorter, it may be just me, but waiting for it to change while in the middle of a puzzle, or incidentally, it changes when im about to finish it, bugged me a bit.

 

OVERALL SCORE:

 

(drumrolls.....) 4/5 stars! (i apologise, but pictures could not be completed at the time because of the acwardness of the gravity)

PROS:

This level focuses in bringing the classic game from Atari entitled "Space Invader"s to LBP. With the background story being added to help develop the story, you are being evacuated from your home and must seek refuge somewhere else. As you do, you inevitable find yourself face to face with several large alien ships that have as their mission to take over LBP. A female scientist designed a tank that you can conveniently use to destroy them and save the planet. If your military tactics pull through you may either continue to the scoreboard or use a specific sticker to fight an even larger threat. I liked how the invaders move exactly like the game; which is that they lower and move from left to right as time passes. The author also made sure that their colors have stayed loyal to the game since the invaders are white and the tank is green. The two most visually appealing segments for me where the television broadcast and the alarms at the beginning and the exploding building. 

 

CONS:

The selected materials in some area did not really combine well with one another. Perhaps this also has to do with the shapes. I would say that this is mostly found in the elevator area. The material just seems out of place with the level. Since its structure is so tightly fitted that it does not feel much like a building. The gameplay in both boss fights are what concerns me the most. The emitted tanks can continue to be emitted. The bad thing about it is that you may have three of four at the time. Having these many tanks deprive the player from being able to fully use the space provided to attack the invaders. They gameplay gets a bit repetitive and this added obstacle does not feel too user friendly.

 

NITPICKS:

  • There is a small ramp for the player to slide down just beside the emitted tanks. If one is to descend quickly everything is fine, but it one takes precaution while on the ramp one is likely to fall on the fiery coal and get burned. Its a rather odd occurrence, but it happens.
  • The camera angle implemented as the player descends over the first building is tricky since you do not really know where you must jump off onto the street light. 

 

OVERALL RATING:  3/5  :smileyindifferent::smileytongue::smileywink: Worth Playing! [level and author not hearted]

 

NOTES: I played this level with gocubsgo2 and pavypavy in one of my runs.

 

 

 

  

 

  

 

SUGGESTIONS:

  • Tweak the camera angle at the beginning so that the street lights can be slightly more anticipated and does not feel like a way to get your player burned. Its just to give them a bit of a more heads up on the possibility.
  • As I played in mutiplayer with gocubsgo2 and pavypavy on my first run, the subway staircase was rather tricky/hard to find. I know you have a light under the ground entrance, but perhaps a more visible ceiling light just above the stair could be more beneficial. 
  • The four soldiers found in the very same area have a magic mouth that states something like: '"This area is closed". The section that they are guarding really has nothing like a door to reinforce their "purpose". There is just a plain wall behind them. Try to make this wall more elaborate so it looks like a possible exit. This exit can be decorated enough so that it looks barricaded.
  • A mechanism engaged sound effect could be added in the elevator's gears area. The sound may be activated when the red button is pushed.
  • The tank in which one falls on after the elevator is a bit under decorated. Try to add thin material over it to give it more details. You can also add metal plate decoration or vents to make it stand out more.
  • Tweak the piston of the female scientist so that it is not visible. It will really make this small nitpick disappear.
  • Tweak the emitter which release the green tanks so that it is set to "One Shot". This will helps make sure that their is always only one tank at a time. The gameplay should be much smoother and will also reinforce the levels authentic feel that only one tank is used to destroy the invaders and not several. Its really a win win situation.
