Klonoa:Vision 5-2 part 2: Boss Joker

Author-Trevor_Fox

Difficulty- inconsistent Easy/Hard

Category- Boss

Pros: Trevor obviously put quite a bit of time in to some things about the level. There are a lot of custom made objects and ideas put into the level. The overall idea is solid but needs refinement. Some of the elements of gameplay are very nice, like the day/night theme.

Cons: There is A LOT of visible dark matter. Even if it was used for platforms,  you should still be able to find some way to hide it. Some shapes could use a quick run through with the corner editor tool, and the overal visual style is... Interesting. It doesn't look nice, but i guess it works. When you grab enemies you usually would die as a result, as their spikes and wheels still stay withlist the enemy dies. This can be REALLY frusturating, as you can get past a long obstacle and an enemy could do this to you. My real concern for this level is the balance of gameplay. In some places it could be rediculously easy, and in others frustrating and un-fun. I would suggest balancing the gameplay, and making sure that things are more polished.

Nitpicks-

-Enemies are kind of bland. try redesigning them a bit.

-The boss is a little eh, it just needs to be redesigned. I couldn't get into enough, there was no real feel of a boss. It didn't feel hectic enough, and the phases could have been planned out more. Id rather not walk from a moving hand to a moving hand with electricty, there was no real difference.

-The 4 switch part. the last switch by the burner needs to have some sort of visual clue as to where it's located. I spent nearly two minutes trying to figure where to go after the third switch.

Overall 3/5 Level and Author not hearted

Notes-

Trevor, you have some really nice ideas. Try to figure out how they can work better, and how the player can really get into the story. You may need to practice with your visuals a bit, they could use some work. I can't wait to see more from you, just keep trying and keep learning bud!

The Caverno Eutopia 2 : Ice Ice Chicken Baby

Author-SiXth

Difficulty-Medium

Category-Platformer

Video-  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96hdv8LTDkY

Pros: First of all. WOW! It's degree of polish and creativity is something I have not seen in a LONG time. It's unique in it's own crazy and random way, it screams that the creator is crazy and just as talented. Every single obstacle is molded to fit and keeps fresh the whole way through. It never gets boring, SiXth throws all sorts of suprises and frustrations your way. There are some nice secrets, though some people may not find the rewards enticing enough. Replay value shoots WAY up with all the random suprises. It keeps the player on the edge, and makes the entire level infuriating... In a good way :smileyvery-happy: All the unique shapes and characters in this level put my abilities to shame. I doubt most people could become as creative as SiXth.

Cons: Few if any at all. Some players *casual* *cough* would find this level to be too frustrating in some places and give up. It's not necessarily a con, though I would recommend stating in some way that the level is fairly difficult in some areas.

Rating-

Polish- 5/5

Aesthetic 5/5

gameplay 5/5

Fun 5/5

If you don't heart this level and SiXth I will find you and hunt you down... And make you play it myself!

Overall 5/5 Hearted and Author hearted

GO PLAY IT ALREADY!

towers, thank you for the review. I've already made a few of the changes you suggested, it is becomeing harder to add detail, as the level is already overheating, but i tried my best. I hope you all enjoy the changes.

Hi, Cannibal606 :smileyhappy:

As you mentioned that in some places the difficulty was too high for some people. I think Ii know where they were. I altready adjusted them, made them a little easier but still need some skill to get passed. Couple of things in the level also get fixed.

Thanks for playing and the review :smileyhappy:

Ancient Treetops

AUTHOR (PSN ID) : Phantom_2k

CATEGORY: Puzzler/Platformer

DURATION: Approx. 15 + minutes

DIFFICULTY: [Medium]

LEVEL LOCATION: Canada

Promotional Post

PROS:

This level is very enjoyable. The grabbable brown sponges used to move Sackboy from different locations are pleasant and help the level stand out as if makes it feel like a unique aspect. The structure of the trees are very well thought out. This level has a great combination of puzzles and platforming gameplay. The puzzles might seem familiar to ones seen in others, but they will feel as if you are seeing them here for the first time here. A hint of mysticism is also present providing it an added aspect that brings the level together.  The combination of selected materials for the trees, the foliage, the ground and the bridges are ideal. It really gives the level an earthly feel since they are simple and most are found in nature. Two parts I particularly liked were where the wind aids provides and invisible bridge and the fortress on ascends to in the sky.

CONS:

I feel like some polishing is needed in transitions between obstacles. This is in some areas where checkpoints are located and in the angled glass obstacle. Some require the player to adjust his/her form of playing so that they may continue on to finish the level and deprives smooth gameplay. There are enough detail to make it visually pleasing, but there really is nothing over the top to make its appearance stand out.

NITPICKS:

  • I do not want to sound rude at all, but the level's icon looks more like green slime instead of a tree.

OVERALL RATING: 3/5 :smileyindifferent::smileytongue::smileywink:Worth Playing!! [level and author not hearted]

SUGGESTIONS:

  • The level's icon looks more like green slime instead of a tree. You could remove the green part and perhaps place some sort of emblem to cover the top part of the icon.
  • The magic mouths that you placed describing the traits of a hero are fine, but reusing a word twice within the same magic mouth feels too basic and limited. Instead, vary it up a bit. The following can be utilized: "A hero must be daring. Show your courage."
  • "A hero must be spirited. Use your agility."
  • "A hero must be cunning. Use you intelligence."
  • Add a sound effect to the yellow circle (key) to confirm to the player that something has occurred after it is grabbed.
  • Add an "Impact" sound effect to when the staircase is dropped. This will make the event more dramatic.
  • Making them dim white does not really make them standout as lights. I would make the four lights under the final door be of different colors and brighter. If you feel like making them have colors takes away from the theme then you can place candles instead. The candles could descend from above or something of that nature. I have not dealt with candles, but you might be able to paint them white with stickers so that they match the environment.
  • Several checkpoints are place in the back layer while platforms to continue the level are located either in the middle or the front. Sackboy usually changes layers as he runs to continue, but this does not seem to be the case here. When Sackboy runs he simply
falls off into the deadly gas. This is not a big issue, but you could try to place the checkpoints in the middle layer via a rod from above or gluing them to the base structure.
  • The colored buttons are all ideally placed, but one of them make the color matching process slightly tedious. I believe that you should try to get all the buttons to be glued to the top part instead of having two of these buttons be left out.
