bouncing bombs!! v 1.4

AUTHOR (PSN ID): scdenley

CATEGORY: Survival Challenge

DIFFICULTY: [Medium] - [Hard]

DURATION: Approx 2 -3 minutes

LEVEL LOCATION: Soon

Promotional Post

Promotional Video

PROS:

This is a bomb survival challenge with a peculiar aspect twists thrown into the mix. As the bombs fall, they are ten tossed (or bounced, pun intended :smileywink: ) up into the air again via the multiple platforms attached by pistons below them. The difficulty of the level increases rather quickly as you see a couple of bombs beside in the blink of an eye. Some bombs have timers, while other do not. Some are even electrified thus making the gameplay more intense that what it already was. The level is especially fun while in multiplayer. The pool at the end is simple and yet fun as you dive in it and swim for the score bubbles.

CONS:

The level does not have much visual appeal and there is no music whatsoever leaving only the sounds of the bombs to take up the entire task of the sound department. Due to its difficult, the level is quickly ended. The level, as stated above by me, and as it can be seen in the promotional video, only really lasts a couple of minutes.

NITPICKS:

None

NOTES:

The level was played in multiplayer mode with gocubsgo2, pavypavy and myself. I would have liked to have taken more photos, but the gameplay was so constant that I could not. Check out the author's promotioanl post for more photos and his other levels.

Originality 2.5/5

Creativity 3/5

Sounds 2/5

Visuals 2.5/5

Design 3/5

Gameplay 3/5

Replay 2/5

OVERALL SCORE: 2.5/5  :smileyindifferent::smileytongue::smileywink: Needs Work/Worth Playing!! [level and author not hearted]

SUGGESTIONS:

  • I would capitalize the first letter of the two words in the title. It could read: "Bouncing Bombs!! v1.4"
  • Play around with the "track player" options from the camera you placed in the bomb gameplay section. Due to the player tracking setting it has right now, the whole space where one moves is not visible. It moves following the player(s), but at the same time it hides bombs that might explode unexpectedly since they are not seen. This only occur on some instances. A player should be able to view all of the hazards so that he may plan his gameplay a bit and enjoy the level for a longer period of time. Try tweaking the camera player tracking setting so that it is set to zero (to the far left). I have a feeling that you might have already attempted this and the camera did not fit the whole screen. This is then perhaps the cause of why you selected the player tracker to follow the player.
  • Make sure to add music. The level feels empty. Typically for a Survival Challenge, players allow/give players the opportunity of selecting their favorite soundtrack. You could implement a section at the beginning where players may do so.
  • For the water section right after the Survival Challenge, try placing bombs attached by winches. This will simulate like they were floating. Players should be careful not jump into it unexpectedly or they will blow up. Instead, they will have to maneuver/swim around the bombs to collect the score bubbles. Give this idea a try. If players say it takes the fun away from this pool away then leave it as it was. Bubbles can also be attached under the water so that players are tempted to gather them as they dodge the bombs.
  • Play around with the water switches. Perhaps some of the gameplay can be modified by using it. Bombs floating up and down occasionally could be interesting and different as the tide rises and lowers.

LittleBig Contra: Stage 1- Jungle(Hearted by LittleXim )

AUTHOR: Leonidas2123

CATEGORY: retro platformer

DIFFICULTY: [HARD]

DURATION: Approx. 6-9

PROS:

A beautiful retro remake of Contra on the Nes. This is stage one of that game.  Now i recieved this review recently , i had already played this on recommendation by greg millers article:  i <3 lbp levels.  You can even play it through and collect a sticker of unlimited lives, and a speed run mode. i really don't have to say this is a must play the numbers speak for the level  10,114 hearts and almost 140,000 plays.

CONS:

This is very hard level to play , you will die. Probably alot, it might even frustrate you, but finding the unlimited lives sticker willhelp curb that. The author also decided to add a section in the game that is not part of the orginal level design. That spot is extremely hard , i found it easier to die there, and respawn past that point.

NITPICKS:

  • odd sction added that was not part of the design of the original.
  • really hard almost to hard.

NOTES:

Originality 3/5

Creativity 4/5 looks just like contra http://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/NES/Contra-Stage1-Jungle.png

Sounds 4/5

Visuals 5/5

Design 3/5 (due to adding a part that wasn't part of the original game)

Gameplay 4/5

Replay 4/5

OVERALL SCORE: 4/5  Recommended [hearted]

SUGGESTION:

  • lower the hardness, my guess why it doesnt have 5/5 rating is due to the difficulty.
  • maybe revisit the level add water into it. ( this level was made well before water was added to the game, the author uses glass and some objects to replicate water.)

Helghast (killzone2) costume tutorial: (Hearted by LittleXim )

AUTHOR (PSN ID): SteveBigGuns

CATEGORY: costum tutorial

DIFFICULTY{EASY]

DURATION: 5-10 min

PROS:

I personally do not like costume tutorials. usually because my costumes come out looking like horrible rejects :smileyvery-happy: Tha aside, i think this level was done rather well, it has a battlefield  look , along metal gear music. tThe instructions are very clear, and the autor makes sure you get all the items you need to complete your suit. as a note these are his stickers, there is no DLC involved.

CONS:

i really do not have any .

NITPICKS:

None

NOTES:

if you want a helghast uniform this level has good instructions and items needed to look like one.

Originality 2.5/5

Creativity 3/5

Sounds 3/5

Visuals 3.5/5

Design 4/5

Gameplay 4/5

Replay 1/5

OVERALL SCORE: 3.5/5  :smileyindifferent::smileytongue::smileywink: nice tutorial [level and author hearted]

Its all about BOMBS!

AUTHOR (PSN ID): pavypavy and craziekidd

CATEGORY: Platformer/Boss

DIFFICULTY: [Medium]

DURATION: Approx 8- 10 minutes

LEVEL LOCATION: South America

PROS:

Well, the name describes the level's content perfectly. The level opening is quite a BANG! as the bomb is lit and set off. Every single puzzle involves the usage of bombs. Whether they are boxes or the circular ones. Every puzzles is placed one right after the other and gradually increase in difficulty as you progress. The puzzles have clever names attached to them thus making them more appealing. Some of these are: 'BOOM CANNON', 'CONNECT 4', 'ROLLING STONES' and 'WIND BREAKER'. After getting through them, you make your way through a Canyons and The Bunker simulations where you face off againts turrets and a boss battle which is apparently helmed by a dictator.

CONS:

There are no truly enthralling visuals. This is distinctly noticeable in the Canyons VR section where it feels rather empty and the floor is mainly flat; which is completely the opposite of what the Canyons actually look like. It literally looks and feels like a building instead of being VR. Sections also feel empty without enough sounds to match the upbeat MGS soundtrack that was implemented.

NITPICKS:

  • Grammar. This is an important factor for players when they decided whether or not a levels feels professional.

Originality 3.5/5

Creativity 3.5/5

Sounds 3/5

Visuals 3/5

Design 3.5/5

Gameplay 4/5

Replay 2/5

OVERALL SCORE: 3/5  :smileyindifferent::smileytongue::smileywink: Worth Playing!! [level and author not hearted]

SUGGESTIONS:

  • As I mentioned before, the level has utilizes the upbeat MGS soundtrack, but there are not enough sounds to back it up. This being the case, add a subtask complete sound effect to all three buttons in the 'BOOM CANNON' puzzle. This button should be activated when the button is presses by the bomb(s).
  • A subtask complete sound effect should also be added when each flag is raised in the 'WIND BREAKER' puzzle.
  • Add a subtask complete sound effect to when bombs fall within the holes of the 'ROLLING STONES' puzzle.
  • Color the bombs. They do not stand out much from the background and are not appealing.
  • Color the switches. They do not stand out much from the background and are not appealing.
  • Fix the grammar in the magic mouth found within the 'WIND BREAKER' puzzle. It should read: "pressed" instead of "presses".
  • In he magic mouth that is activated right next to the first soldier, it reads: "....Machines....". I would change the word "Machines" into "machines" so that it is grammatically correct.
  • The magic mouth on the second soldier should read:" Pesky laser! They can't hurt us back here, but watch out when you go up."
  • The magic mouth that is activated once one ascends the elevator close to the end should read: "Awww! Was I in VR all along? I wish it would have been real."
  • In the last magic mouth, the one over the key, should have the word "awesome" instead of "awsome".
