Re: The LittleBIGReview Group [Everything in One!]

[ Edited ]

Does a level really have to be a "level" in order to be reviewed or could it just be some form of demonstration where all you do is visit, walk trough and observe. I've seen many levels that are either tutorials on creating contraptions and special effects, technical demonstrations or other demonstrations... I have no levels like that but some of the ones I've seen are pretty amazing.

My favorite was "Little BIG calculator"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiRgYBHoAoU This is

NOT my level, It is only one of my favorite visited community levels.

@ PaperCarrier

Hello

To answer your question, the level does not have to necessarily be a standard level. We have reviewed several tutorial levels. Little BIG Calculator is a classic level in LBP. I really like it as well. It did show the potential that LBP possesses. If you want to find other great levels to play, make sure to browse through our inventory here. There are over 400 levels reviewed. Thank you for your interest in our thread.

Thanks! I was planning to make either a show level, tutorial level or tech demo level in the future.

Re: ★ ★ The LittleBIGReview Group [Everything in One!] TEMPORARILY CLOSED ★ ★

Hello, I know it says temporarily closed, but I was seeing some reviews still being posted and wanted to request a review. I'm new to the forum, so hope I'm not breaking a rule by posting here to a closed thread.

If possible please review my new level: :smileyhappy:

PSN: Hautebox

Level Name: Watchmen 3D - Night Owl's Adventure

If review requests are not currently being accepted, maybe you could put me in the waiting list for when the link is no longer closed ?? :smileyhappy:

Thank you for your time.

Ok so I've been around for weeks now and why was this thread always titled as

"TEMPORARILY CLOSED" ? There were levels being reviewed every now and then even when "TEMPORARILY CLOSED" is up in the threads title. When does it actually open and close and for how long each time?

Re: The LittleBIGReview Group [Everything in One!]

Hello LBP community member,

Yes, the title does read 'Temporarily Closed'. It is done so that we may catch up on our reviews. Hence, why we still post them. People still request reviews, but it is probably due to the possible confusion. We will eventually review the new request as well though, but it will most likely take us longer then. The 'Temporarily Closed' sign will be removed once all the reviews have been posted. Removing it now will result in a larger amount of requests being made and thus delaying our full reopening. Thank you for the query. Feel free to ask any questions.

Sunken Lair

AUTHOR (PSN ID): anidais

CATEGORY: Boss/Platformer/Story

DIFFICULTY: [Medium]

DURATION: Approx 15 minutes

LEVEL LOCATION: Very Soon

PROS:

This is a mystical and mesmerizing level. The ambiguous story sets the mood as well as the appropriate lighting that has been placed. The lighting varies throughout the level making it feel different every step of the way. The gameplay is composed of several small details and simple mechanics that really do the trick for the level. It goes to show that complexity is not necessarily the key to success for a level. It must be stated though that the different mechanics are well balanced and the placement of the switches are ideal for the scenery as well. This is because it helps showcase the labor that the author has implemented into it. There is a section with slightly swiveling and shifting platforms that feels perfect. The added score bubbles below them help instigate a sense of exploration in the player by diving into the water. Star items are placed within the environment adding a sense of wonderment; which is also complemented with the vague shimmering sounds that dissipate into the air. The closing spiked walls upbring the adrenaline as players must swim my them. The puzzles and the mazes are well designed along with the whole level itself. The use of the sponge lights to travel through these underwater mazes are really neat, simple and yet effective as stated earlier. The height of the water is ideally placed so that players may splash on top of it as they run over it. The combination of all the different contrasting materials utilized makes the level look really different and unique. The level culminates with a boss battle that, just like the story, does not have a clear explanation of its origin. The boss looks really good and I enjoyed the challenge it provided.

CONS:

The story could have been a bit more in depth. Nothing too drastic, but enough so that players can get a better sense of what is going on. Doing this should still preserve a sense of mysteriousness due to the environment created.

NITPICKS:

Level icon is not too noticeable. Then again, this might fit the essence of the level

NOTES:

In my opinion, I feel like the level is highly under played and deserves more exposure. If not, it is a gem that should be appreciated only by those who get the chance to play it.

SCORES:

Originality 4/5

Creativity 4/5

Sounds 4.5/5

Visuals 4.5/5

Design 4.5/5

Gameplay 4/5

Replay 4/5

OVERALL SCORE: 4.5/5  :smileyindifferent::smileytongue::smileywink::smileyhappy: Very Good! [level hearted but author not hearted]

SUGGESTIONS:

  • I would move the sticker switch on the fish cutout so that it is not exactly in the middle. Some/Most players, like myself, like to place stickers in the exact same center. Having the sticker switch where it is now does not allow the sticker to be placed there. Place the sticker switch a bit more to either side so that the fish sticker may be placed in the center.
  • I am not certain if you have already done this, but wood creaking sound effects can be placed on the boat. These sounds can be activated as the boat sails from left to right. A magnetic key switch can be attached to a single creak speaker placed on the boatThis key switch is then activated with several sensors placed along the trajectory of the boat. This sound will enrich the sense of mystery
  • If you cannot elaborate more on the story, I recommend that you create a sequel that answers some of the story based questions.

Moon

AUTHOR (PSN ID): Xg4m3r- (SprintGamer)

CATEGORYPlatformer/Story

DIFFICULTY: [Easy]

DURATION: Approx 4-5 minutes

LEVEL LOCATION: Very Soon

PROS:

Get your sackonaut suits ready for a moon mission. The spaceship and the landing area look nice. The materials used to create the spaceship resembles perfectly the metal foil implemented in real life. The race provides a nice ride towards the green aliens found towards the end. The mining area equipment is also well developed. The author noticeably has a skill to recreate machinery. The mining drill specifically looked awesome. The black background with the small LED lights provides a decent scenery where players may feel like they are in space walking on the moon.

CONS:

The aspect that I believe highly affects the level is its overall length. It can be finished in a couple of minutes as I specified in the level's information above. There is not much gameplay besides the race and defeating the aliens. Details are only palpable in the equipment/machinery, but in nothing else.

NITPICKS:

  • The aliens look rather simple.
  • In order to navigate the space vehicles, one has to sit in the front seat. This turned into a problem as I tried to get into to it quickly while the starting line started counting down.

NOTES:

I played this level with pavypavy and we both got dressed as sackonauts.

SCORES:

Originality 2.5/5

Creativity 3/5

Sounds 2.5/5

Visuals 3/5

Design 3/5

Gameplay 2.5/5

Replay 2.5/5

OVERALL SCORE: 3/5  :smileyindifferent::smileytongue::smileywink: Worth Playing [level and author not hearted]

SUGGESTIONS:

  • Make meteors, asteroids, shooting stars or small objects fly in the background. This will great help the details. In order to do a shooting star for example, capture a small LED light as an object. Place a couple of emitters on the farther wall in the black colored background. When tweaking these emitters, place the small LED light as its object. Tweak each emitter respectively so that they emit the LED lights at different distances and speeds so that they differ from one another. Make  to tweak emitter so that they not visible
  • I would edit the space vehicles so that the sponge seat is distributed though both the front and back seats. After editing this, you can once again place the small wall that separates both seats. If you do not wish to remove the small wall you can always use the corner editing too to distribute the sponge.
  • So that the aliens look more vivid and not stationary, I would place a rigid piston below them. Tweak the piston so that it is rigid and it is not visible. This make the aliens appear as if they are jumping up and down. They would now become a additional hazard as they might squish the players. You can also place deadly gas below them to ensure that the player will get hurt if he/she attempts to run under them.
  • Make the level longer.

Note-Not everything lethal in the level is meant to kill, such as the Mega Tortoise or the spikes.(Added for visuals only)
